Obituary

Burton Charles Trebour, 82, of Iselin, formerly of Carteret, passed away on Tuesday, January 28th surrounded by his loving family at JFK Hospital.

Burt was born in Bayonne and raised in North Bergen by his parents Henry and Lorraine Trebour. Burt graduated from Union Hill High School as President of his class in 1959. Burt served his country in the United States Navy, as a dental technician on the USS Hunley from 1959 to 1963 and was honorably discharged.

Burt was well known for his fairness in his roles as Vice President of Labor and Administration for A-P-A Transport and a Consultant for New York Waterway. During his career, Burt was an Employer Trustee on the Local Lodge 447 Machinists Money Purchase Pension Fund and Co-Chairman for the Board of Trustees for the IAM National Pension Fund.   Following A-P-A, Burt became President of Trebour Consulting Services and most recently was Pension Manager and Trustee at Teamsters Local 617.

Burt served as a Trustee on the Board of Directors for Deborah Heart and Lung Center, where he was awarded "Man of the Year" in 1987 and was involved in the United Way and Cerebral Palsy Foundations of Hudson County.   He was a lector at St. Joseph's Church in Carteret and was a member of the St. Joseph's Grammar School Board of Education.

During his leisure time, Burt enjoyed spending time with his family at Wildwood Crest, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and the occasional trip to the Freehold Raceway.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maureen Trebour (Burke) and his three children Michael Trebour, Marianne DeSantis and her husband Robert, Allison Chorba and her husband Michael, and his five grandchildren, Kaitlyn O'Brien and her husband Edmund, Michael and Robert DeSantis, Megan and Ryan Chorba. He is also survived by his brother Richard Trebour and his wife Barbara, sister Betsy Trebour Bernzweig, his brother Todd and his wife Curta, and his brother-in-law John Hogan, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, who he adored. He is predeceased by his parents Henry and Lorraine Trebour, his brother Keith Trebour, sister-in-law,  Peggy Hogan, and brother-in-laws, Henry Bernzweig, Adam Thogode, and Michael Burke.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 31st from 4pm - 8pm at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue, Carteret. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00am on Saturday, February 1st at St. Joseph's Church, 7 Locust Street, Carteret. Entombment will take place at St. Gertrude Cemetery Mausoleum in Colonia. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice.
