Obituary

Daniel Dias, 86, of Carteret, entered eternal rest on March 4, 2025 peacefully surrounded by his family.

Daniel was born in Perth Amboy to Jose and Mary (Lukasiak) Dias. Daniel worked as a heavy equipment operator at U.S. Metals in Carteret. For many years, he served as a volunteer fireman with the Carteret Fire Department Company No. 2 and was a parishioner at Divine Mercy Parish in Carteret.

Daniel was predeceased by his brothers Leo and Carl Mickla. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Barbara (Marciniak) Dias, sisters Regina Warren Solari and Gloria Dias, his devoted children, Dennis Daniel Dias and his wife LuAnn, Diane Buffer and her husband Eric, his cherished grandchildren Sarah and Patrick Daniel Coveny, as well as his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Known as "Poppy," by his grandkids, Dan was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who gave everything to his family. His vibrant, joyful personality and sense of humor made everyone smile. Dan had friends just about everywhere he went, around the neighborhood, at the mall where he walked, and at the waterfront where he bird-watched. A talented baseball player, Dan joined local teams and coached little league.

Daniel's heart was as big as his personality. For his whole life, he was a passionate animal lover who couldn't resist rescuing and nursing any animal in need. He looked after neighborhood street-cats, his favorite which he adopted and named "Mommy." He also loved to babysit his darling grand-dog, Jessie. Dan also enjoyed his time volunteering with the Special Olympics. His family is filled with fond memories of Dan listening to doo-wop music and watching Westerns, playing scratch off tickets, and of course, his many jokes and stories. Most importantly, he'll be remembered for the wisdom and warmth he provided always to his loved ones.
