Obituary

Frederick Francis Burns, 84, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025. Born January 20, 1940, Frederick grew up in Jersey City and spent most of his adult life in Carteret, NJ.

Frederick graduated from St. Peter's Prep in 1957 and earned High Honors while attending Rutgers University. In 1974 he earned an Associate's Degree in Science. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1964, with assignments in Keflavik, Iceland, and Japan, where he met his beloved wife, Kiyoko. He spent his career as a computer programmer working for IBM, William Grant & Son and then as an independent consultant.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick (Frank) and Helen Burns, his wife Kiyoko, and his stepson, Kazuya Burns. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Makiko Uto of Okayama, Japan; his brother and sister- in-law, Donald and Mary (Jeanie) Burns; his sister, Barbara Rocafuerte; and several nieces and nephews.

Fred participated in many bowling leagues (which he served as secretary for many years) and loved a good bowling tournament at Woodbridge Bowling Center. He was especially proud of his high score or 299. Over the last few years you could find him playing sudoku or completing word searches. He believed in service and donated to many organizations.
