IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George J.
Otlowski Jr.
March 28, 1941 – September 25, 2024
On September 25, 2024, George J. Otlowski, Jr.,83, peacefully passed at
Roosevelt Care Center, Edison .
George was born, raised and lived in Perth Amboy his entire life... he
truly was a "son of the City". George was the son of the late Olga
(Beigert) and George Otlowski, who was the former Democratic
Freeholder, Assemblyman and Mayor of Perth Amboy.
A 1963 graduate of Gettysburg College, George studied law and received
his Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in 1968.
Returning to his home state, New Jersey, George set up a general law
practice in his beloved Perth Amboy. Much of George's life was
centered around the Law and the City, helping the residents and
improving the services offered by the town.
George married Judy Halus and they
eventually settled in a townhouse by the Raritan Bay, that is where he would find respite from his hectic, fast-paced life.
George was a member of St. Stephen's
Church and was very active in preserving and promoting his Polish
heritage. In 2014, George was honored as Man of the Year by the
United Poles of America. He was also a great friend of the Little
Servant Sisters of Strawberry Hill.
George was a past Trustee of Middlesex College and a Board member of
Youth Challenge. He was a Public Defender in several towns; a
longtime attorney for the South Amboy Board of Education and
represented numerous Planning and Zoning boards throughout the state.
Many would be surprised to know that George was an avid surfer, a
skill he picked up during his days at California Western. He would
head to the beaches to ride the waves, especially ahead of a storm.
To honor this love of the sea, donations in lieu of flowers may be
made to the Surfrider Foundation, which supports the protection of the
ocean and beaches. Online gifts are accepted at surfrider.org
George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judy (Halus) Otlowski and
his brother Matthew. George is survived by his devoted sister
Catherine Totin, several nieces and nephews, cousins and countless
friends and clients who relied upon him for personal and legal advice.
In 2014, Assemblyman Craig Coughlin said this of George Otlowski, Jr.
" George, you have been a supporter, a mentor and a friend. You are
the true spirit of Perth Amboy. George is easy, laid back and has a
penchant for being late. He's helped an array of people and is always
generous of his time. He gives a lot to charitable and religious
organizations. George, you will not get rich from this, but you will
go to heaven."
