Irene Theresa Vernillo, 88, of Carteret, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17,2025 at Roosevelt Care Center in Edison. She was born in Perth Amboy and was a life-long resident of Carteret. Irene was married to the love of her life, Sam Vernillo for 69 years. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Elizabeth's Church in Carteret. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Irene was a talented and avid quilt maker.

Irene is predeceased by her parents, Anna and George Slomko; and her brother, Frank Slomko. She is survived by her loving husband, Sam Vernillo; her children, Jennifer Baumgartner (Paul), Sandra De Quarto (Peter), Maria Parry (David) and James Vernillo; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Ann Myers; many nieces and nephews; family and friends.

Funeral will be on Saturday, November 22, 2025, starting at 9:30 AM at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue, Carteret, followed by a 10 AM Mass at Divine Mercy Parish-Holy Family Church in Carteret. Interment will be at St. James Cemetery in Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Friday, November 21,2025 from 4 PM to 7 PM.
