IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean
Romanowski
September 17, 1927 – March 25, 2025
Jean Romanowski, 97, formerly of Carteret, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025 in Freehold, NJ. Born in Carteret, she spent the majority of her life there before relocating to Freehold to live with her son, Chris, and his family in 2016.
Jean was the valedictorian of the Carteret High School class of 1944. After graduation, she met the love of her life, Chester, at a dance and they shared 67 beautiful years of dancing together! During those years, they traveled the world, enjoyed shopping, attended Broadway shows, and explored various cuisines. Her vibrant life experiences and love for knowledge were the reasons she became the Jeopardy champion every night while watching with her family.
Jean was a dedicated member of Holy Family Church in Carteret, NJ, where she participated in the Rosarians and the Seniors groups. Upon moving to Freehold, she quickly became involved in the senior club, forming friendships and enjoying outings, social events, holiday celebrations, and Friday bingo games.
Jean (or Jeannie – as she was lovingly referred to) was a ray of sunshine in everyone's life. She went out of her way to make her family and dear friends feel loved and cherished. Every day at 3 PM, she prayed the rosary for all her loved ones and for those she knew who needed extra prayers. Jean had a genuine love for life, driven by her curiosity and willingness to embrace new experiences. She inspired us to find joy in the small things each day.
She was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Adam Viater; her husband, Chester Romanowski; and her brother, Theodore (Ted) Viater. She is survived by her loving sons, Chris Romanowski and his wife Beth of Freehold, and Curt Romanowski and his wife Lori of Amarillo, Texas; cherished granddaughters, Stephanie Garrity and her husband Ryan, and Sara Romanowski; adored great-granddaughter, Olivia Jean Garrity; niece, Leslie Payne; nephew, Daniel Viater; great-nephew, Zac Payne; sister-in-law, Barbara Viater; dear friend, Donna Heffernan; along with many other beloved family and friends.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday April 2nd, 2025 with viewing from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue Carteret, NJ. Mass will be at 11 AM at Divine Mercy Parish- Holy Church in Carteret followed by interment at St. James Cemetery in Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations to Divine Mercy Perish in her memory would be appreciated
