Hemsel
June 5, 1939 – June 15, 2024
Robert T. Hemsel 85, of Carteret, passed away on Saturday, June 15,2024 surrounded by his loving family at Perth Amboy Hospital. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ and was a lifetime resident of Carteret. Robert graduated Carteret High School in 1957. He got drafted in 1961 into the United States Air force and was based in Spokane, Washington. Robert got married in 1962 to Joan Ullersberger. Robert graduated from Rutgers University, with his BS in accounting while working for U.S. Metals Refining Co. in Carteret, where he worked for over 45 years until they closed. He was a member of the Carteret Seniors, American Legion Post 2631 and was on the Board for the Mid-State Credit Union in Carteret. Robert was a loving grandfather and a great grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with the kids.
He is predeceased by his parents, Alma and Thomas Hemsel; and his sister, Alma Shanley. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan Hemsel; his children, Guy Hemsel and his wife, Lori, Todd Hemsel and Wendy Aspres and her husband, Joe; grandchildren, Ashley, Amber-lee (Alex), Thomas (Krystal), Todd Jr., Stephanie and Tyler; great grandchildren, Quentin, Kehlani, Sylas and Luzia; and several nieces.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 19,2024 at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue, Carteret from 4 PM to 7 PM. Private Interment will take place on Thursday, June 20, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Disabled American Veteran Dept. of NJ, pay.gov/public/form/entry/101/46646309 in Robert's memory would be appreciated.
