With great sadness, we announce the passing of Russell (Russ) Evan Toth, who passed away on September 24, 2026, at the age of 64 in Austin, Texas.
Russell was born on August 15, 1962 at 10:39 A.M. in the U.S. Army Hospital, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. He was the first-born son of Barbara J. Giovino née Kish and Bernard Toth. After his father was honorably discharged from the United States Army the family moved back to Manville, New Jersey where the family was joined by second son Douglas (Doug) Alan Toth.
In August of 1969, he, his mother and brother moved to Carteret, New Jersey to live with his maternal grandparents in the house his grandfather built. He attended Private Nicholas Minue School and in 1980 graduated from Carteret High School. In 1984 he obtained his Bachelor of Engineering from Steven’s Institute of Technology and began working as a Chemical Engineer for Hoechst Celanese in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In 1988 he married Irma Toth née Reyes and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to join the Fibers/Polymer Operations. He earned his Master of Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1993 and a year later in 1994, Russ and Irma were blessed with the birth of their only child, Michelle. Advancement in his career lead him to join Abbott Laboratories in Waukegan, Illinois and later to GMP Companies in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 2002, the family moved back to Russ’ childhood home in Carteret, New Jersey until finally settling in Austin, Texas. Russ became active in his local community and was elected to Precinct Chair for the Texas Travis County Democratic Party. He later went on to earn his license as a Personal Financial Advisor and joined Prudential Financial and in 2023 retired from Allstate Insurance.
Above all, Russ was his own man who was strong-willed, independent, and self-driven. These attributes at times led him to spirited debates with anyone who shared his passion for history and current events. Russ had a way of speaking his mind that left little doubt regarding his beliefs, thoughts and opinions. A man of deep curiosity, he was passionate about enriching his knowledge of history and Catholic faith by regularly researching various articles and books. He enjoyed mastering chess and music; learning to play the trumpet, piano, and being and active member of the church choir. He was not a perfect man and his life had its share of difficult chapters and relationships. Yet behind the rough edges he was a man with his own hopes, regrets, memories, and capacity for love.
Russell Toth is preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Alan Toth; father, Bernard Toth Jr.; maternal grandparents, Julius and Marcella Kish, paternal grandparents Bernard Sr. and Bertha Toth, Uncle Jerry Toth, Aunt Irene Toth, and Cousin Jerry Toth Jr.
He leaves behind memories both complicated and tender may he rest in eternal peace, at last. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Michelle A. Toth and her fiancé Kaleb A. Delgado of Brooklyn, NY; his mother, Barbara J. Giovino and her husband, Pete of Bullhead City, AZ; his uncles, Julius Kish of Matawan, NJ and Leon Kish and his wife, Theresa of Clifton, NJ; along with multiple cousins. The Toth Family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Dell Medical Seton Hospital and Central Heath Clinic medical team for their support and guidance during his remaining days.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:15 A.M. time of Service at Synowiecki Funeral Home, located at 56 Carteret Ave, Carteret, New Jersey. Interment will follow at Saint Gertrude Cemetery, located at 53 Inman Ave, Colonia, New Jersey.
